Way behind on updates!

To say I'm a little behind on updating is a huge understatement--it's been a busy few months--and have had some great projects in the works...just not much time for the updating part of it!

I was involved again with the Artful Agenda project--and created lettering for the 2011 planners and Diaries. They are now on sale in the Designer's etsy shop:

I submitted just a few black and white illustrations this time for some calendar page spreads. I used the sketches I created for a couple of my recent 6x6 pieces and inked them. I really like how they look as small black and white line drawings, so I may revisit these and explore other ways to use them:

Here's a few more of the illos I submitted to be included in the Artful Agenda calendar. I actually used this as an opportunity to revisit some old sketches, textures, and patterns I've created previously for past projects, or just for fun, and to challenge myself to combine or use them in a different way. I've been having a great time working on this project! The calendar will be available on the designer's Etsy shop late this year.

Artful Agenda Illustration

Here's the first of a few illustrations I am submitting for the Artful Agenda/calendar project. I'm hoping the designer will use this as a spread for a spring time week, and I included the weekdays lettered in the shape of raindrops. All the art is to be greyscale for this project--but I may revisit this girl later and add some color as a personal piece.

Baby Book samples

A few months ago, my Art Director suggested me as an artist for a book assignment--a novelty/gift type to be published by an adult division of Penguin, that would be geared toward expecting parents with a child who is not particularly looking forward to that new sibling. It was meant to be funny, sarcastic and quirky, and I submitted these samples to be considered for the project:

I didn't get chosen to do the book, but I was up against some really great and experienced illustrators. So I was happy to even be considered, and the editor and my art director both had positive reactions to this work, so I may try to develop some more portfolio pieces in this style, and geared toward this kind of market.
